General: (OMIT) The John Penningtons had some trouble deciding where to live during the first 22 years of their marriage. In their first major move, they crossed Ohio and settled on the eastern border of Indiana, in Richmond Twp., in Wayne Co., IN in 1826. They lived there for a time, then about 1830, apparently finding it unsatisfactory, moved just across the Ohio border and settled in the town of New Paris (Preble Co.). Then, restless again, in about 1844 they moved back to Indiana into Ripley Co. This time they settled to stay. Elizabeth died 3 years later on 13 Dec. 1847. John survived Elizabeth and continued farming for another 9 years. At the age of 58, he died on 26 Mar. 1856 in his son Joel's home. Both John and Elizabeth are buried in Ripley Co., IN. PP26-1, pg 75.
